The Ross County Diversion Program has been in existence since 1981.  At that time, the program was an alternative to traditional prosecution of first-time adult felony offenders.  In 2005, the program started accepting applications from the Chillicothe Municipal Court.

Diversion allows first-time offenders the opportunity to apply to this program and be placed into a quasi-probationary period of a specific time tailored to the offender.  An applicant must meet the statutory authorization under the Ohio Revised Code Section 2935.36.  After successful completion of this timeframe, the indictment/charges are dismissed.  As a result, the offender will not have a felony or misdemeanor conviction.  Failure to successfully complete the diversion program results in the case being reverted back to the appropriate court and prosecuted.
